About WeimerType

What is WeimerType?

WeimerType is a typing practice tool designed to help you improve your typing speed and accuracy. Practice with real code examples and track your progress over time.

Your Privacy Matters

No personal data is stored on our servers. WeimerType is completely safe for schools and organizations:

  • Your name and progress are saved in a special key (explained below)
  • Nothing is sent to or stored on the internet
  • All data stays in your browser until you logout
  • School safe and privacy compliant

How Your Key Works

Your key is like a save file for a video game. It contains everything about your account:

  • Your name
  • Which exercises you've completed
  • Your typing speed statistics

Important: Save your key when you logout! Without it, you can't get your progress back. It's like a password that also contains all your data.

Example: If you practice at school, copy your key before leaving. At home, paste that same key to continue where you left off.

How Speed (WPM) is Calculated

WPM stands for "Words Per Minute" - how fast you type.

How it works: Every 5 characters counts as 1 "word". So if you type 100 characters in 1 minute, that's 20 WPM.

Your card speed: Each category card shows your average speed for completing that entire category. The more times you complete it, the more accurate this number becomes.

Understanding the Symbols

Stars ★★★

Stars show your skill level for each category:

  • 1 star = 10 WPM
  • 5 stars = 50 WPM
  • 10 stars = 100 WPM (expert level!)

Progress Circles ○○○○

These show your completion progress:

  • On category cards: Empty circle (○) = not completed yet, Filled circle (●) = completed
  • In practice area: Shows which snippets you've finished in real-time
  • Next to levels: Shows how many categories you've completed in each level

Speed Changes ↑↓

Arrows on cards show if your speed improved since last time:

  • ↑ = You're getting faster!
  • ↓ = A bit slower this time
  • → = About the same speed

Tips for Success

  • Practice regularly: A few minutes daily is better than long sessions once a week
  • Focus on accuracy first: Speed comes naturally with practice
  • Complete entire categories: Your speed only updates when you finish all snippets
  • Save your key: Always copy your key before closing the browser
